Equitable Partitioning Policies for Mobile Robotic Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
The most widely applied strategy for workload sharing is to equalize the workload assigned to each resource. In mobile multi-agent systems, this principle directly leads to equitable partitioning policies in which (i) the workspace is divided into subregions of equal measure, (ii) there is a bijective correspondence between agents and subregions, and (iii) each agent is responsible for service requests originating within its own subregion. In this paper, we design provably correct, spatially-distributed and adaptive policies that allow a team of agents to achieve a convex and equitable partition of a convex workspace, where each subregion has the same measure. We also consider the issue of achieving convex and equitable partitions where subregions have shapes similar to those of regular polygons. Our approach is related to the classic Lloyd algorithm, and exploits the unique features of power diagrams. We discuss possible applications to routing of vehicles in stochastic and dynamic environments. Simulation results are presented and discussed.

ENERGY AWARE DISTRIBUTED PARTITIONING DETECTION AND CONNECTIVITY RESTORATION ALGORITHM IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS
Mobile sensor networks rely heavily on inter-sensor connectivity for collection of data. Nodes in these networks monitor different regions of an area of interest and collectively present a global overview of some monitored activities or phenomena. A failure of a sensor leads to loss of connectivity and may cause partitioning of the network into disjoint segments. A number of approaches have be...
متن کاملDesign and Evaluation of a Method for Partitioning and Offloading Web-based Applications in Mobile Systems with Bandwidth Constraints
Computation offloading is known to be among the effective solutions of running heavy applications on smart mobile devices. However, irregular changes of a mobile data rate have direct impacts on code partitioning when offloading is in progress. It is believed that once a rate-adaptive partitioning performed, the replication of such substantial processes due to bandwidth fluctuation can be avoid...
متن کاملAre Autonomous Mobile Robots Able to Take Over Construction? A Review
Although construction has been known as a highly complex application field for autonomous robotic systems, recent advances in this field offer great hope for using robotic capabilities to develop automated construction. Today, space research agencies seek to build infrastructures without human intervention, and construction companies look to robots with the potential to improve construction qua...
متن کاملAdaptive Algorithms for Coverage Control and Space Partitioning in Mobile Robotic Networks
We consider deployment problems where a mobile robotic network must optimize its configuration in a distributed way in order to minimize a steady-state cost function that depends on the spatial distribution of certain probabilistic events of interest. Three classes of problems are discussed in detail: coverage control problems, spatial partitioning problems, and dynamic vehicle routing problems...
متن کاملEpsilon Equitable Partition: A positional analysis method for large social networks
Positional analysis is considered an important tool in the analysis of social networks. It involves partitioning of the set of actors into subsets such that actors in a subset are similar in their structural relationships with other actors. Traditional methods of positional analysis such as structural equivalence, regular equivalence, and equitable partitions are either too strict or too generi...
